1. Lip Balm

Basic recipe: 1 Tablespoon Beeswax, 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil, 1 teaspoon Vitamin E Oil, 5-8 drops of essential oils.  Method: Melt the beeswax and coconut oil together in a double broiler and stir it well. Remove from heat and add the Vitamin E and essential oils.  Stir well.  Pour into a tube or container and seal.

EO’s (essential Oils) to Add:

Lemon Oil – for a light, citrus flavor and scent that is revitalizing and energizing and purifying and antioxidant qualities.

Peppermint – for a strong, fresh scent and a minty taste that can support liver and respiratory function and increase concentration and mental sharpness.

Lavender – for a sweet, soothing aroma that refreshes and can restore balance and aid in relaxation.  It can also help to soothe and heal chapped, irritated lips.

2. Sanitizing Spray

Basic recipe: about 4 oz Witch Hazel with aloe, 1 oz Water, 35-40 drops of essential oils.  Method: Use a glass spray bottle.  Place the essential oil drops in first, then the water, then fill the rest of the bottle with witch hazel to the top.  Place the lid on and shake vigorously to combine.  You may want to shake a bit before each use. (This sanitizing spray is ideal for hands, shopping carts, steering wheels, etc.)

EO’s to Add:

Purification – for a light, neutralizing aroma that can help to cleanse from impurities and soothe skin.

Thieves – for a spicy, musky smell that is well-known for anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and cleansing properties that helps to boost immune system health.

Melaleuca – for an earthy aroma that has all the cleansing properties of Tea Tree Oil and can help to purify and support skin health.

3. Deodorant

Basic recipe: 1 Cup Coconut Oil, 1/4 Cup Shea Butter, 1 Cup Aluminum-Free Baking Soda (or Arrowroot Powder), 30-40 Drops of essential oils, deodorant tubes.  Method: Melt the coconut oil and shea butter, stirring until combined.  Remove from heat and add the baking soda (or arrowroot powder).  Mix well.  Add the essential oils.  Use a glass bowl with a spout or a small funnel to pour the mixture into the deodorant tubes and allow it to solidify before using.

Note: you may want to use a combination of essential oils to equal 30-40 drops in order to create the scent and get the desired benefits.  For instance, Thieves, Purification and Melaleuca oils all have purifying and antibacterial properties that would be perfect for deodorant, and you can combine with a number of your favorite oils for aroma.

EO’s to Add:

Lemongrass – for a light, citrusy aroma with earthy undertones that is refreshing and rejuvenating.  It also promotes balance and can improve mental clarity.

Blue Cypress – for a spicy, natural scent that can aid in regulated breathing.  It is known to support the bodies natural response to skin irritation and injury and can promote healing.

Geranium –  for a springlike, flowery scent that is both uplifting and calming.  It boosts skin health and supports the circulatory system, and can revitalize body tissues.

4. Foot Scrub

Basic recipe: 1 Cup Epsom Salt, 1/4 Cup Olive Oil, 1 Teaspoon Liquid Castile Soap, 15-20 Drops of essential oils.  Method: Mix all the ingredients together in a glass bowl.  Store in an airtight container.  Use for exfoliating feet, rinse thoroughly.

As with the deodorant above, you may want to combine other oils with either Thieves, Purification or Melaleuca oils due to their cleansing and antibacterial properties.

EO’s to Add:

Eucalyptus – for a gentle and refreshing aroma that can energize as it revitalizes.  It has cooling properties and is very nonirritating.

Joy – for a luxurious and exotic aroma that energizes and uplifts.  It can inspire romance, togetherness and an overall feeling of well-being.

Angelica –  for a light and soothing scent that can restore happy memories and calm anxiety.  It also relaxes nerves and muscles and releases tension.

5. DIY Shampoo

Basic recipe: 1/2 Cup Liquid Castile Soap, 1/4 Cup Canned Coconut Milk, 1/4 Cup Honey, 2 Tablespoons Coconut Oil, 2 Tablespoons Vitamin E Oil, 40-50 Drops of essential oils.  Method: Mix all ingredients together in a bottle with a lid.  Shake well before each use – lather, rinse.

Again, use any combination of oils to achieve the scent and cleansing properties you desire.  Melaleuca, Purification, Rosemary and Lavender all promote skin and hair health and are known for cleansing and soothing properties.  Thieves is also a strong cleanser and boosts immune system health.  Use these in combination with other oils to get the results you want.

EO’s to Add:

Spearmint – for a soft minty, slightly fruity scent that is a rich antioxidant.  It supports nervous system health and has restorative properties that can lead to a sense of balance and well-being.

Clary Sage – for a mellow, warm, herbaceous scent that is uplifting and relaxing.  It supports healthy mental and emotional states.

Grapefruit – for a fresh, citrusy aroma that is energizing and has mood-enhancing properties.  It is a powerful antioxidant and is very nourishing to skin and hair.
