7 Tips for a More Romantic Bedroom
If you haven’t been feeling very romantic lately, your bedroom could be to blame. Bump up the passion with these seven suggestions for a more idyllic love nest.
1. Cut the clutter
Tripping over shoes, laundry, and sewing projects does not add to the atmosphere. Visual clutter can also cause a problem – keep pattern mixing to a minimum and try to have a color/pattern/texture scheme that “flows.”
2. Lighting
Stark lighting is about as flattering to your bedroom as a burlap sack is to your body. For romance, create areas of shadow and light with candles, small lamps, or even a few strings of holiday lights rather than relying on overhead lighting. Mirrors bounce light around and add an extra bit of flavor to a room.
3. Texture
If any of your romantic fantasies have ever involved a bear-skin rug, you’re already on your way to creating a bedroom made for love! Soft, plush, silky, sheer… combine your favorites in and around your bed to create the perfect place to cozy up. Pillows, curtains, rugs, or a canopy are great places to start.
4. Artwork
Your bedroom wouldn’t be complete without a bit of creative décor, but beware! Don’t fill your room with photos of your children, parents, or even yourself as a child if you want to keep things romantic. Instead, use photos of the two of you that invoke loving memories. If you’re looking for other affordable wall art, do a search on Etsy – you may come across a few love-inspiring works like these. You can also try your hand at some “love”ly DIY art like this. Bonus: this one doubles as mood lighting!
5. Simple and chic
Don’t clutter spaces and tabletops with too many decorative items. Avoid stashing hobby items, stuffed animals, and personal collections in the bedroom. They’re cute and they’re special, but they’re not necessarily romantic.
6. Turn off (or move out) the TV
If you have a TV in your room, turn it off at a certain time each night. That goes for other electronic gear as well. Nothing kills a mood like a sitcom theme song.
7. Bedroom maintenance
Squeaky bed frames, a door that rattles, or a comforter that scatters feathers everywhere can be real mood wreckers. Could you use a lock on the door? Better window coverings? A fresh coat of paint on bedroom furniture? Put a little time into the room and you and your love will soon be relaxed and romanced.
