Bathrooms are a great testing ground for a new style. Since they’re (typically) small, you won’t have to invest quite as much in materials and labor for a bathroom makeover. And, because you use your bathroom every day, you’ll be able to tell if something isn’t functioning and how to change it. Being in a stylish bathroom you love makes looking in the mirror first thing in the morning so much easier, right? 🙂
We’ve done our share of bathroom makeovers in our Park House and our Logan House, and we are currently working on the bathroom in our Canyon House (I’ll share soon!) I love seeing how much personality you can pack into one small room — and on a budget, no less! Our guest today took a boring builder-grade bathroom and gave it a chic makeover — for under $100!

$100 Chic Budget Bathroom Makeover

Let me start by first saying that I am honored and so excited to be on Remodelaholic. I love seeing all the inspiration here and it helps get me motivated and inspired for all my projects.
You wouldn’t believe that 3 years ago I never even thought about spray painting anything, going thrift store shopping or checking the target home décor clearance every time I went to Target.
Before my husband and I bought our first home, the house we are currently living in, I decorated with beige, shades of reds, gold, leopard and zebra.
You also wouldn’t believe how I used to decorate let alone transform a guest/kids bathroom for under $100!
So let me show you how!
These photos was taken right after we moved in and I painted it dark beige
After living with this for a while… I wanted a complete 180 degree style change.
Que the shabbying and painting of everything white and distressing!
And there my friends was the start of my DIY life.
Tools needed:
Hammer
Skill saw
finishing nails
tape measure
Paint brushes & rollers
level
pencil
electric screw driver for hanging mirror and chandelier
tape
sandpaper
(I already had all of those things)
HERE’S WHAT I DID:
1. I demo’d the mirror. First I taped it all up then hit it with a hammer. Then threw away the pieces. I don’t believe in bad luck! Just blessings!
2. I painted the cabinet white and added crystals knobs. I used Valspar semi gloss ultra white paint straight out of the can for this. Sanded, painted, lightly sanded and painted again.
3. I painted 1/3 the wall gray and the rest white.
Choose how high you want your board and batten to be. Mark it on the wall, then take a level and trace the line across all walls moving the level as you go. Then paint from the ceiling down to the line. Don’t worry if it’s perfect because the wood slats will hide it.
The paint color I chose is Olympus paint and primer in one, color SECRET PASSAGE.
4. I added board & batten. I did NOT use MDF. I used a 3/4 inch thick 6 foot wood slat priced at 1.50 each at Lowes. I wanted it to be thicker so I used wood slats but used the same technique as all the other bloggers. It’s simple, measure, cut then nail.
I measured the width of the wall and cut that #1 slat, then nailed it to the wall with finishing nails. I cut 45 degrees on the edges of the wall so the corners matched smoothly.
Then I measured the length slat #2 and cut that. Also, 45 degreed the bottoms to go over the original base board. Nailed in place.
Lastly, I measured each individual space in between each #2 slats and nailed in place.
5. I caulked then painted the board and batten slats white.
6. I spray painted the chandelier and added crystals.
7. I hung the yard sale mirror.
8. I added all the accessories..
I’m sorry to say that I didn’t get the chance to take pictures of the process because I was in such a hurry.

GRAND TOTAL: $93!!
It was a TOTAL makeover in about a week due to having kids and I had to work around their schedules.
