Fall and Halloween Mantel

Okay so with all the remodeling we do ’round here, I have a hard time decorating for holidays.  A lot of times it feels like it just adds to the mess.  But last year we got the mantel installed on our stone fireplace, and it has been pretty homely ever since.

I think it is about time I did something about it.  Especially since this week we’ve been working on finishing the board and batten living room walls and if you follow me on instagram you would know what is going on round here,  so come follow me!

I wasn’t about to do JUST Fall, because then chances are I wouldn’t update it for Halloween, and October is only like 2 days away.  So we went and picked up all our Halloween decor from storage… yes, half of our stuff is living in a storage unit.  That is the down side of downsizing by 1,000 square feet.  Ever since Etta saw the boxes she has wanted to help me decorate…  I didn’t let her do too much on the mantel (I will let her touch up after this is posted…) but the rest of the house is hers.   (Oh and this room has no natural light at all, no windows…only light from rooms next door, so it is SO hard to photograph! Forgive my lack of no light camera skills!)

I hope you enjoy my Fall and Halloween Mantel!

Okay, to start I found the bunting for sale at one of my favorite local restaurants, Kneaders!  They actually had it last year too, and I was so mad at myself for not getting it.  So I bought it this year… yes, I know I can make bunting, but I just don’t have the time, so it was a worth while purchase this year.

The flower container above is actually a lantern I bought at Target this summer,  I filled it with burlap and a few grocery bags to fluff it out, then filled it up with fake flowers and a feather spray.  The flowers are a mix of nicer and super cheap flowers.  I had pops of yellow all over my old house so I have quite the supply of yellow flowers.  I thought it would be especially fun to have in a big basket in the (never used) fireplace.  Kind of like a flower fire!

Only one pumpkin actually grew this year in our garden, and I am not quite ready to pick it.   I have yet to take my girls to the pumpkin patch…  so, I don’t have any big pumpkins, just a few of the small decorative pumpkins from Walmart.

I bought the pumpkin lights at Walmart 5 or 6 years ago.  I think this is only the second time I have used them(here is the first)!  But they are so fun to look at!  I can’t wait to see them after dark!Fall-mantel-and halloween-mantel-decor-ideas-9

Ha ha, did you notice my gold Christmas tree magnolia leaf spray?… I thought it fit in perfectly, it is fall after all.  I also got a few feather sprays and some paper mache pumpkins at Michaels.  The glitter skull is from the dollar store, I’ve had it for a couple years, but I bet they still sell them.

Well that is about it for my Fall and Halloween Mantel! What do you think?

I feel really happy with it.  Can I admit, and not be kicked out of blogland that this only my second holiday mantel!!  (I did my first one in my old house but then we moved and I didn’t do any other holidays!  Can you believe all that work building in a faux mantel for nothing!)  So happily for the first time ever, I am linking up to Sarah’s Fall Mantel Party!

  1. I love seeing all the fall mantels. My biggest problem is I can’t find a single pumpkin or gourd where I live! Nothing! Also, I can’t figure out how to do a mantel without having to change the rest of the décor in my room (which I definitely don’t have the budget for as much as I’d like to). I’m working with a giant red sectional and a yellow and white coffee table (the room has beachy aspects).

  2. Looks beautiful and amazing! I was thinking I would just skip the Halloween decor this year but you’ve convinced me I’d better get with it! Thank you for all of your awesome ideas!

    1. I actually picked it up a couple years ago from a local UT bakery that also sells decor. Random but I always love their stuff!
