Home Sweet Home on a Budget: Putting Your Dining Room to Work

Hi, there, Remodelaholics!  It’s time again for room-by-room decorating ideas that won’t break the bank.  I’m Ruth, from A House in Holland.  I’m focusing on the dining room, this month.  You can see my dining room inspiration files here, check out some blogger dining room makeovers here, and get ideas for refreshing out-of-date dining furniture here.  Cassity and I want you to bring along your own tips for fixing up your dining spaces to the Home Sweet Home on a Budget Dining Room Linkup Party, right here at Remodelaholic next week, June 30-July 2.  We can’t wait to see what you’ve been working on!

Now, can we talk?  Can we really talk about how you feel about your dining room, today?  I ‘m going to tell you that between blog reading and chatting with my real-life friends, I’ve discovered a shocking comparison between women, their hair, and dining rooms.   While you pull your eyebrows down from the sky, let me explain.  See, when it comes to hair, I’ve known a lot of women with naturally curly hair that wish for straight hair, and a lot of women with straight hair who desperately want curls.  And when it comes to dining rooms, I’ve known women with formal dining rooms that wish they could use the space for something else, while the women with a dining nook off their kitchen long for a more formal space.   For whatever reason, we only seem to want what we can’t have when it comes to a place for the table and chairs.

Luckily, straightening serum and hot rollers exist to help us switch up our hair texture, and the internet is full of ideas and examples of how to get what you want out of the dining space you have.  Not only is it possible to make an eat-in-kitchen look as pretty as a more formal space, it is also possible to put a formal dining room into double duty.  There are some great ideas out there for how to ditch the table completely and let a formal dining space become a room with a completely different purpose.  Today, though, I want to show you how other bloggers found a way to have their cake and eat it, too, with these beautiful eat-in-kitchens and multi-use dining rooms.
