A Modern Man Cave Mood Board

Mancave MB Pinnable Image

Hello again! Dawn here, from DesigningDawn.com, back with another mood board for your decoration inspiration. This month, I wanted to try something a little different, and decided that a modern man cave moodboard would be a fun challenge. I like the idea of working up a space that a guy would dig but that wouldn’t make his wife cringe. 😉

To start out, I dug around a bit for some stylish manly spaces:

Most of these manly spaces have a few things in common. The color palette is deep and limited, creating a cozy atmosphere that is often associated with masculine design styles. They also all have some rough, rustic, or industrial flair to them. A little bit of that ‘intentionally unfinished’ look works well in a masculine space— think, exposed brick, scuffed leather, industrial metal, rustic wood, etc. I think taking some of these design elements into consideration can make for a very stylish space that has a definite masculine feeling to it, without looking overly fussy. So with all that in mind, here is what I came up with:

Creating a modern man cave. Love this rustic industrial masculine space!

Creating a Modern Man Cave

A classic Chesterfield sofa brings in a beautiful leather texture, but with a touch of class (no overstuffed cushions or cup holders here!). Combined with a geometric (read non-frilly) rug in muted neutrals and blues, it’s a great foundation for the space.

Next I added in some rustic elements. An industrial pendant light adds interest and sets the mood, while a wood and metal coffee table adds bonus storage space. Wood and metal chairs and bookshelves further the industrial atmosphere, but are balanced out by some carefully chosen throw pillows. They bring another accent of color and texture to the space, but stick with the geometric feel of the decor.

Finally I added in a few fun touches with some vintage sport prints. They bring that element into the space in a more stylish way than a college-dorm-esque sports poster in a plastic frame, don’t you think? I also brought some life into the room with a large fiddle leaf fig in a woven textured basket. I’m a firm believer that every room is better with plant life. 🙂

So what do you think? Is it possible to have a stylish man cave? If you’re interested, here is a list of sources I used to put together this mood board:

  1. I love all these man caves and your design board. My husband “designed” his own man-cave a few years ago and actually did a pretty good job. He used Benjamin Moore’s Dry Sage paint and we get questions on the color all the time. After seeing all these photos above, I am going to suggest that he accessorize a bit more…if he will listen to me!
