Home on a Budget: Linkup Features and FUN SPACES

It’s Friday!  Every Friday here at Remodelaholic, we take a look at ways to make our homes more liveable and lovely without spending a bunch of money.  I pick a new room every month, and share ideas I’ve found that provide inspiration and tutorials for fixing up that particular room.  I focus on low-cost DIY projects and simple fixes.  On the last Friday of each month, I host a linky party, where you can linkup any projects you’ve worked on in your house that go along with the room of the month. On the first Friday of the month, I feature projects from the linkup and introduce the new room and share some inspiration photos to get all of us excited to get to work on our own homes.

So, let’s get started!

Here are some of the projects from October’s Master Suite Linkup that caught my eye:

A bathroom rug made from towels at Home and Away with Lisa

Upholstered headboard at Soul Style

Master closet reveal from Batchelors Way

DIY bed at The Accent Piece

Master bath reveal by Soul Style

Thanks to everyone who added their master suite projects to the linkup!  You’ve all been working hard, and I really appreciate your willingness to share your work.  Great job, everyone!

November is going to be an exciting month here at Remodelaholic, because we’re going to focus on Spaces for Family Fun: playrooms, media rooms, game rooms, and bonus rooms.

To kick off the theme of each month, I like to share some fun inspiration photos. These rooms may have been designed and decorated by professionals, with wads of cash in hand, but that doesn’t mean we can’t use them as a jumping off point for our own projects. And who knows? You just may see something in one of the following photos that makes you say, “Hey, I could paint/sew/tile/make this myself!” (Which, FYI, would be perfect to linkup at the end of this month during the Master Suite Linkup, Nov. 30-Dec 3.)

And now for a look at some decorating/designing eye candy…

  1. While I respect the spirit of this month’s feature, those of us that truly live on a budget do not have such spaces, but rather find ways to squeeze bonus space into any nook or cranny we can. For example, I live in a ranch house with an unfinished basement (not safe for use as a bonus room/playroom/media room, etc…) that has a traditional floor plan – no den, no playroom, no media room, no attic space to be finished, etc…. Would you accept traditional living/bedroom spaces that have been tweaked to accommodate the ‘extras’? I appreciate your reply.

    1. Christine, Absolutely! In my last house we had a family room/living room and a closet off of it that I turned into a playhouse, I wish we could have a play room, but it is just not always available! But any special spaces, or room features or ideas that work for you in your home are worth linking up! Please be sure to stop by!
