A Gilded Mood Board – Using Warm Metals in Modern Decor

Hi there! I’m Dawn, from DesigningDawn, and I’m so glad to be here today with my first monthly mood board contribution for Remodelaholic! Each month, I’ll be selecting a topic and putting together an inspiring mood board for your viewing pleasure. To start things off, I decided to tackle warm metals in modern decor, a design trend that has gained a lot of momentum over the past year, and shows no sign of slowing down in 2014. Five years ago, I would have laughed at the idea of using warm metals like gold, bronze, or brass in decorating. It seemed so dated! Now… I can’t get enough. Seriously, I gravitate toward anything golden.

Today’s mood board is my take on a gilded bedroom. Using those beautiful warm metals in a modern space can make it seem so welcoming and personal. And when paired with soft neutrals and modern silhouettes, this definitely isn’t your grandma’s gold.Gilded Mood Board - DesigningDawn for Remodelaholic.com #warmmetals #trending #metallic #olioboardI paired several gorgeous shiny objects with lots of neutrals and some rustic elements to tone down the gaudy tendency gold-overload can bring. (Let’s assume Liberace doesn’t live in this bedroom.) I also brought in subtle shades of aqua in the rug, accent pieces, and artwork, to balance out the orange undertones in those brassy pieces elsewhere in the room. The mixture of modern geometric patterns in the textiles, along with bold graphic art prints, keeps the room from feeling to formal or old-fashioned. I love the mix of old and new, sleek and vintage. It really has that ‘collected over time’ vibe that adds to the cozy appeal of decorating with warm metals.

So what do you think? Have you, would you, will you, use golds in your home decorating? I’m so on board.
