Hello everyone! Today I want to share some Holiday Home Inspiration for you.

Over here in the Hathaway household, we love everything farmhouse & rustic, so our decor this December is mostly neutral, with subtle hints of Christmas.

For the first stop on the tour, I’ll share our Holiday Kitchen.

2 Rustic White Kitchen With A Touch Of Holiday Decor, A Christmas Home Tour By We Lived Happily Ever After Featured On @Remodelaholic

This holiday season, I wanted to bring Christmas into my kitchen. I feel like this is a often overlooked space when it comes to decor, but it actually has so much styling potential. When you think about it, kitchens are the heart of the home.

Christmas Baking is an addiction for me. Displaying ingredients out in the open is a subtle way to decorate your kitchen for Christmas. My husband loves my chocolate chip cookies, so I make sure to keep a lot of flour and sugar in stock out on the counter.

My rusty arrow marquee light is up all year long, but it always looks best around Christmas time. This year I added some pallet gingerbread houses to our kitchen island, and I put up a Christmas sign in the hutch.

We also wanted to make a hands on nativity for our children, so my husband and I used a jig saw to create nativity characters blocks from 2×4’s.

Another way to pull a Christmas Baking theme into your kitchen is to display cooking utensils up on the counter. They especially look good up against subway tile.

7 Hot Chocolate Bar For Display In White Kitchen, By We Lived Happily Ever After Featured On @Remodelaholic

To complete the cozy vibe, we totally made a hot cocoa bar on the bookshelf that encases our fridge.

8 DIY Fresh Pine Garland In Rustic White Kitchen, By We Lived Happily Ever After Featured On @Remodelaholic

I draped a homemade garland over my back door. It’s so easy to make garlands with christmas tree branches. I just tied wires around the stems to connect each one.

When you have a large Chalkboard wall, it’s a crime if you don’t decorate it seasonally.

A quick way to update builder grade materials and fixtures is to layer unique, vintage items on top of them. Our back door looks very plain & normal, so I cut a wreath hanger to work with a rustic pallet frame and the sharpie Christmas tree art I made. I pressed it to lay flat against the frame, and added some velcro to command strips to keep it from banging around.

I also made several Christmas signs to scatter throughout our house.

These rustic reclaimed wood gingerbread houses are also something I did with my daughter. We haven’t had much success with actual gingerbread houses.

Last month I built this lovely chippy fireplace mantel out of reclaimed wood & 2×4’s. It is currently displaying our stockings.

I love everything to be fresh, bight & clean in my room. It’s the one place my children don’t throw their toys around (well, not normally!) So I kept it pretty minimal for now.

These adorable stockings are all hand-sewn with fabric I found from spoonflower. My great grandmother made us all stockings when we were little, so this was something I wanted to do for my kids. It is so much more personal than store bought!

19 Add Christmas Decor To Your Bedroom In Subtle Ways, By We Lived Happily Ever After Featured On @Remodelaholic

One tip for staging a room is to spread out color evenly throughout the whole space. For example, I added a splash of blue on the chair with blue pretty ornaments. The across the room, I placed matching vintage bottles on the mantel.

20 Copper String Lights Make Great Holiday Lighting, By We Lived Happily Ever After Featured On @Remodelaholic

Last year I became obsessed with LED copper christmas lights. They are so delicate & vintage looking, and a much prettier alternative to green corded lights.

I made a sign out of plywood & reclaimed pallets to go above the mantel (recognizing a theme/obsession in my house yet?)

22 Fill A Handmade Fireplace With Cut Wood For A Rustic, Woodsy Look, By We Lived Happily Ever After Featured On @Remodelaholic

My husband used to cut firewood for us when we lived in a cabin on his family’s property because we heated with wood. I was so excited tot finally be able to display some stacked wood in our decor again. Even though this time, it’s purely for looks.

32 Clothespin Star For Rustic Christmas Tree, By We Lived Happily Ever After Featured On @Remodelaholic

Many years ago, we didn’t have even have enough money to decorate our tree. But that didn’t stop me from making decorations myself. You can always make things beautiful. You don’t nee brand new everything. It’s super special because we still use most of the ornaments I made, including this clothespin star.

And I am still into handmade: this year I painted most my ornaments white… because I don’t have enough of that color in my house. 😉

I up-cycled a little old chalkboard as a tray on our living groom table. The black texture on top of the distressed wood is so pretty.
