Home Sweet Home on a Budget: Features and Mudrooms!

Hey, everyone!  I’m really stoked about sharing the room for August:  the laundry/mudroom.  It’s such an important room in the house, especially if you are trying to keep up with the laundry for more than one or two people… but wait is that even human ly possible?   But I’m getting ahead of myself.

First, I have to ask–did you check out the awesome kitchen projects that were linked up last week?  Seriously good stuff there, folks!  If you linked up, pat yourself on the back, because everyone had something to share that totally transformed the look of their kitchen or improved the way it worked.  And they did it without spending a ton of money.  Yay!

I want to give a shout out to a few of the projects that really impressed me:

Sunshine wood valance from At Home on the Bay.  This is just so different from what you’d expect to find over a kitchen window, but it looks amazing.

Kitchen cabinets updated with molding from Don’t Disturb This Groove.  I am totally impressed with this transformation, and I absolutely love the cabinets that look like barn doors!

Kitchen cabinet corbels from Inspire Me Heather.  Check out the before and after pics on this one.  Those corbels create a lot of architectural impact.  I’ve always wanted to do this in one of my homes!

DIY glass inserts for cabinets from Between Blue and Yellow.  This whole kitchen is just pretty, but it’s interesting to see how much the glass fronts completely change the look and feel of it.

Finished kitchen redo from The Little Cottage on the Pond.   I like the way they opened up the upper shelves, and the way those shelves are arranged and decorated is really impressive.

So, I thought it would be fun to spend the month of August finding budget-friendly ways to fix up our Mudrooms and Laundry Rooms.  After all, with the kids coming home from summer camps and getting ready to go back to school, those are probably the spaces in your home that are getting the most use, right now. I’ve got some terrific, budget-friendly ideas to show you in the coming weeks, but I want to kick things off by sharing a few dreamy rooms from the pros that we DIYers can use for inspiration.

  1. Thanks so much for posting this! We’ve just started designing a new mud room and got some great ideas – the Harlan Cabinetry example would be perfect in our house! Can’t wait to figure out how we can do it.
