I love the way this newly painted foyer turned out! It’s so bright and crisp, it makes a wonderfully welcoming entry into her home!

I’m Pam, creator of DIY Design Fanatic. I am a hopeless DIYer, gardener, decorator, crafter, seamstress and organizer of things. Professionally I’ve been a fashion designer, closet designer and have designed kitchens and baths, but the hardest job I’ve ever had is being a stay at home mom. All of you stay at home moms know what I mean! Now that my girls are out of high school, I’m still at home creating, gardening and blogging about the adventures of DIY life. I couldn’t do any of this without the talent of my awesome husband of 26 years, who used to be a chef and is skilled in all areas of DIY.

The painters have finished and our house is now put back together…for now. Our Family Room, Foyer and two Hallways desperately needed painting, so we called in some professional help to get it done. Mr. Fanatic and I are diyers for the majority of things that need to be done around the house, but painting 18 foot ceilings is something best left to the professionals. Plus, what probably would have taken a whole month of weekends(if we were lucky), only took the painters a few days.
I’m sure you remember how it looked before with the yellow/orange/gold walls…lol…it all depended on the time of day. The color was very cheerful, but I was ready for a more neutral background.
Here’s what you would see if you dropped by and walked in the front door…

And here’s the after…stepping in from the front door… I love how the dark wood and painted furniture looks against the light paint. The large arched window seriously needs a window treatment!!!
The photos were taken in the afternoon from with the sun coming in…the paint color shows up a little pink, but it’s actually a greige color~ beige with a touch of gray. The paint color is Benjamin Moore White Sand.
It’s very light and bright and gives a feeling of calm.
I took the old curtains off the sidelights and am thinking of using my lattice stencil that I used to make our daughter’s jewelry organizerto make some burlap privacy panels….or I could do something drapy (and stenciled) from the top of the transom to the floor on each side. What do you think?
Our painters did a fabulous job…even by my standards. Mr. Fanatic and I are really particular about our painting (which is one reason why we don’t usually hire someone to do it), but the guys at Regal Home Improvement did a great job and I would hire them again in a heartbeat. They even vacuumed my carpet and cleaned up really well when they were finished. Plus, the price was also very reasonable.

Lovely! I’m always so awed by what the dramatic difference that’s achieved with paint.
As for the sidelights, I like the crispness of the molding so I wouldn’t cover it up. You can frost the windows to prevent folks from seeing in but still allow the light. You can buy a spray version (so you don’t have to etch the glass with an acid). I used that on some single-panel French doors in my dining room. I taped off a border and then some vertical stripes (I wanted to break up the expanse of glass in that case; I wasn’t so worried about privacy) and sprayed over it all. Or you can buy a film that’s removable. A roll of Contact paper is inexpensive, or you can buy “fancier” versions. I once found a source that supplies more commercial spaces, but a quick Google search just revealed that even Home Depot has some pretty spiffy stuff for next to nothing: https://bit.ly/OBGrX8.
I love the hallway. Looks so pretty. I have been seeing a lot of curtain panels used on sidelight windows, and tied back. I have seen it on blogs but cant remember which ones. The look is beautiful, and actually makes the hallway/entryway feel like a “room”. I think that would look lovely in your home.
