Get This Look: Sunny Corner Banquette
I believe that the kitchen and dining area of the house are truly the heart of the home. Everyone just tends to gather there naturally, whether it’s for meals, doing homework, or just hanging out. Banquettes are quite in style (see some of our favorites here), and putting your dining area in a corner is a great way to save space and still have room for everyone. This sunny corner banquette would be amazing year-round, from summer brunch to snug winter studying. I have 8 tips (and links!) for you to create this look in your home. Eight Ideas to Create a Corner Banquette
1. Look Up
Give your ceiling some oomph and texture by installing beadboard. Learn how to install a beadboard ceiling or really amp it up by installing a coffered ceiling.
2. Frame It
Add architectural interest by installing or adding thicker molding around your windows, especially at the top. Get all my tips for making your moldings look perfect here.
3. Light It Up
Use a simple but still statement-worthy chandelier or pendant light to illuminate the dining area without dominating the space. I love this wrought iron candle chandelier on Amazon — it’s handmade in the US and a great price! Or this one Wrought Iron Global Chandelier

4. Color Me Calm
Keep it bright but calm by sticking with mostly neutral white, tan, and wood grain with a few accents of warm colors. And a pop of turquoise never hurt anyone!
5. Keep It Comfy
Cover your dining bench with a cushion and pillows to make the space inviting and add a little back support. 6. Mind Your Legs
A round pedestal table leaves plenty of room for guests to slide into the corner seat and provides ample leg room.
7. Work Double Duty
Build a bench in the corner to function as both seating and storage for kitchen items such as linens. You can follow our tutorial from our built-in bench, reuse old kitchen cabinets like Rachel did, or you can buy premade IKEA shelving to turn into a bench. There are so many options! I found three different IKEA-hacked bench configurations that all look great: upholstered with baskets at Our Sweet Life, using kitchen cabinets at Little House Blog, and using drawers at GardenWeb.
8. Seat Yourself in Style
Add some modern seating with transparent acrylic dining chairs with clean lines. These clear modern acrylic chairs on Amazon are reasonably priced or IKEA has similarly priced Elmer or Tobias chairs.
