The 5 Secrets of Successful Transitional Decor: Blending Styles to Create a Home You’ll Love
Do you love traditional home elements but also love furniture that has a modern edge? Then, transitional style might be your cup of tea! Transitional style is a mixing of designs. Clean lines and simple colors convey a modern touch while wood and moldings bring out the best in traditional styles. Here are 5 tips to help you design and style your home, transitional style.

Transitional Style Tip #1: Use quiet colors and allow furnishings to create interest
Neutral paints colors such as gray, beige, or white create the backdrop for the transitional home. Fun furnishings are what bring the punch. This home has modern farmhouse furnishings and some more modern pieces. Touches of color are added through accessories or art. You may consider just using this blush pink throw, this throw or a couple of blush pink pillows or pillow covers. Transitional Style Tip #2: Limit accessories
This can be a step that’s a little more challenging, but transitional homes let large artwork draw attention. Accessories are kept to a minimum. We love the vertical lines on the wallpaper which draws the eye up, making this room feel even larger. Transitional Style Tip #3: Add visual interest with textures
To add interest, the designer used a glass backsplash tile with a bold pattern. Glass cabinet doors and a shiny wrapped countertop bring that modern edge. Large metal lights tend toward farmhouse but still look amazing in this more modern kitchen. Consider adding a decorative glass vase and a faux stem for a touch of green. We’ve also found a similar light here.
Transitional Style Tip #4: let large elements (like lighting) showcase your home
Once again we see texture added with the backsplash. A floor tile with bold lines was also selected for this space. Transitional Style Tip #5: Pair modern furniture with classic elements like moldings
Isn’t this dining set fantastic? Farmhouse touches definitely make an appearance here but they are upgraded to a more traditional feel. Moldings and a detailed ceiling beam add character.
